10 Alternate Browsers to Google Chrome

Browsers, make the internet this much fun and useful.

Which Browser do you use?

Let us guess – Google Chrome?

One doesn’t need to be a genius to guess this – it is the most popular browser in the world after all. But we all know that it is not the only browser in the world- you have plenty of options to pick from. While a lot of you may already have heard of browsers like Mozilla Firefox, UC Browser, and Opera, there are still quite a lot of names that are quite good but still unknown.

And besides, it should be noted that just because something is popular doesn’t mean it is the best or the only option – who knows you may like its alternatives as well.

So here we have a list of 10 Best Alternate Browsers to Google Chrome.

  1. Mozilla Firefox

This is no doubt one of the well-known browsers on this list. While it is generally considered by the public as a bit slower in speed than Chrome, Firefox is also considered to be better in security than its counterpart as well. Now as for the validity of this remains to be seen, the fact that their website does show how firefox performs when compared to chrome, edge, and safari. That being said, it is a good idea to take it with a grain of salt since this is a comparison done on their website and not by the tech officials.

  1. Edge

If you have a computer with windows 7, 8.1, or 10, then you already know what this browser is. Yes, this is indeed an upgraded version of the infamous “Internet Explorer” and in all honesty, it is rather good. While its speed is still a bit slow, this alternate browser to Google Chrome is still far better than its previous versions. On top of that, it is compatible with almost all the addons that you may find in google chrome and is said to have better security than Chrome as well.

Considering this, if you want a browser that is secure than Chrome but still has adequate speed, Edge is one of the better options. On top of that, this is the default browser in newer versions of windows as well.

  1. Opera

This is another one of those well-known alternate browsers to Google Chrome. While its speed is still a bit slower than Chrome, it is more secure and convenient to use than its counterparts. But security is not the sole reason why it is an alternative to chrome, it’s operas’ usage of memory. Yes, this browser uses less internal memory to run when compared to chrome. So if you have a computer with a low ram, this is one of the best browsers for you.

On top of that, it also has turbo mode as well which increases the loading speed of websites by compressing website data as well – granted that by doing this, you will use more internal memory.

  1. Safari

This is basically Edge of Apple OS and is the default browser for Apple devices. As you may have guessed, this browser is not as fast as chrome but more secure. But as you may have guessed this is a feature shared by all of the alternative browsers to Google Chrome. What sets Safari apart from other browsers is its power efficiency. Yes, this browser consumes less of your battery and if you use safari instead of chrome, your battery can last up to one hour more.

Naturally, since this browser is meant for apple os, the battery consumption may slightly increase on windows. But still, it will still consume less battery when compared to Chrome. So if you have a laptop whose battery doesn’t last long, safari is indeed one of the best alternative browsers for Chrome.

  1. Brave

So far the alternative browser for Google Chrome has offered better security, lower internal memory consumption, and lower battery consumption. What makes Brave a good alternative to Google Chrome? What about a built-in ad blocker and VPN? Yes, Brave has a built-in Ad-blocker and a VPN in it.

Brave browser is perfect for those who want privacy freedom and less annoyance while using the internet. While the VPN service of Brave browsers is not as efficient as additional software, it does allow you to browse the contents that may be banned in your location. On top of this, it is also one of those few websites that don’t track your data. So yea, perfect for those who want privacy while browsing the internet.

  1. Tor

Yes, this browser does exist. This is a fabled browser that allows one to access the Darkweb. But since the dark web is, well dark and filled with dangers, this browser needs to provide the best security and privacy to the users – which it does wonderfully. Naturally to get something you need to sacrifice something as well. So Tor is not the fastest of the browsers in this list.

Since Tor can access the darknet, it can naturally access the general internet as well. And due to its ability to provide you with advanced security and privacy, this is one of the best alternative browsers to Google Chrome.

On a side note, we need to mention that to maintain security, the Tor browser will block plugins as they can be manipulated to access your information and it is best not to use torrent over Tor as well for this very same reason.

  1. UC Browser

So far all the alternative browsers for Google Chrome have focused on Security while compromising speed. HUC browser is the first one on this list that compromises data security for compatibility and download speed. UC browser is well known for its ability to compress data for increased speed. On top of that UC also has a unique feature of multi-format file downloading which enables you to download all the available formats of said file – including Videos.

Naturally, since this alternative browser to Google Chrome does not focus on data security, you will need to be careful while using this. But if you just want to access the internet twitch fast speed and functionality, the UC browser is a good option for you.

  1. Puffin

Puffin is rather unknown among the browser. But just because it is unknown, it doesn’t mean that it is not good. The loading time of websites on Puffin is similar to that of Chrome with some minute differences depending on the website but at the same time, the security is considered to be similar to chrome. This is a browser that focuses on speed so it is not that different from chrome.

Besides this, puffin also allows you to download files straight to your cloud server which is a service that is rare among browsers. So basically puffin browser is google chrome with some additional services making it one of the best alternative browsers to Google Chrome.

  1. Vivaldi

Vivaldi is one of those lesser-known browsers out there in Nepal. Stil similar to Puffin, just because it is not popular in Nepal it doesn’t mean that it is any less than Chrome. In fact, it is just as good as chrome if not more. The speed and security are similar to Chrome with fewer ads.

Keeping that aside, the unique thing about Vivaldi is that it is optimized for easy access to its bookmarks and tabs. So if you are someone who needs to use a lot of websites at the same time and has a ton of bookmarks but needs the speed of chrome, this is the best alternative browser to Google Chrome for you.

  1. Maxthon

If you are searching for a browser that is faster than chrome which also consumes less internal memory, then Maxthon is the browser for you. Yes, chrome is not the fastest browser out there – there are browsers that are faster than it and Maxthon is among them. Besides its speed, it is compatible with all the add-ons and extensions that chrome is.

Add the fact that it is considered to be rather safer than chrome and we might just have a browser that is better than chrome. That being said, you should take the claims about its speed and security with a grain of salt. While it is definitely as fast as chrome, it may not exactly be faster. Regardless, this is still among some of the best alternative browsers to Google Chrome.

So,

The gist is that “while chrome is indeed among the most popular browsers out there, It is not the only one and you have many alternatives to Chrome”. While that is being said, you should note that every browser has its own advantages and disadvantages.

It should also be noted that the popularity of the browser doesn’t equate to its performance. Now that being said let’s also acknowledge that while Edge is an upgraded version of the infamous internet explorer, it is not as bad as people think it is – it is way better than its predecessor.
